family Founded in 1903, Toberman is one of the oldest human service agencies in the greater Los Angeles area. Originally, Toberman offered an infirmary, a residence for single women, and a series of youth development and delinquency prevention services in Echo Park. In 1937, Toberman Settlement House relocated to its present site in San Pedro and became a comprehensive agency serving inner-city residents of all ages. In 2006, Toberman was chosen as the United Way’s “non-profit of the year” and in 2007, the agency completed its capital campaign and celebrated the opening of its new, 36,000 square-foot campus as it announced its name change to Toberman Neighborhood Center. Toberman’s holistic approach to social services helps to serve over 18,000 clients every year.
