Mentoring

Adult mentoring for youth on Toberman's campus

In weekly meetings with a mentor, youth can learn to overcome antisocial behavior, aggression, and school failure. Mentors provide hope by helping the youth consider life alternatives and showing them what is possible for their lives. Interested mentors and youth are encouraged to sign up.

Family Literacy

Family Literacy

Starting December 2012, Toberman will offer a literacy program for parents/guardians and their 3-5 year old children. Children and adults will meet at Toberman three times a week, for three hours during the school day. The classes get kids ready for Kindergarten by helping with English language and reading skills. The adults learn English language skills (ESL classes), how to motivate children to read and parents get a better understanding of how the school system works. The parent and child also spends time reading together!

  • Create a stable, supportive and harmonious family
  • Encourage behavior you like
  • Deal positively, consistently and decisively with problem behavior
  • Build positive relationships with your children so that conflict can be resolved
  • Plan ahead to avoid or manage potentially difficult situations
  • Take care of yourself as a parent
