Volunteer
(See "Current Opportunities" below.)
Toberman welcomes volunteers. We encourage creative ideas and
special projects for our kids such as: art, dance lessons, sports,
science experiments, special talks on health, hygiene, race,
or other cultural issues.
Our creative programming can accommodate teen internships,
and community service hour projects.

Homework assistance:
Monday – Thursday 3:30 – 4:30. Work with a small
group or one-on-one with children who need help with homework
completion, project research, test preparation, or help with
basic reading and math skills. These children are broken down
into two age groups: ages 5-10 and 11-14.
Reader: Be an
interactive reader, taking turns acting as both an active listener
and reader to a child.
Mentoring: Share
a skill or hobby - Become a mentor - come teach a class in arts
& crafts, music, checkers, chess, knitting, or other fun
activities. This is a one-time opportunity to partake in a special
project with any size group of kids. This is also an opportunity
to fulfill requirements for special service groups, such as
an Eagle Scout or Girl Scout project.
Athletics: Help
by participating in after school and organizing team sports.
With the arrival of our Olympic-sized basketball gym, we need
help teaching athletic skills and developing team sportsmanship
with the new arrival of. Toberman will offer basketball, volleyball,
and indoor soccer.
Sponsor a field-trip:
Field trips offer a chance for the children of the Barton Hill
Neighborhood to become exposed to other opportunities. This
is a unique reward for teens who have earned high grades as
well as an educational bonus for younger and older children.
Feeding Program: This
popular, interactive program allows a group to pick one day
a month to come serve a hot meal to our children at 4:30, which
is right when they have completed their homework. The group
prepares the food and brings all the paper goods to feed approximately
50 children on their designated day.
