Hot Meal Program

Guidelines for Hot Meal Program Volunteers

First of all, thank you so much for your contributions of time, energy, and financial resources to Toberman’s Hot Meal Program. The children have come to rely on your wonderful food for their evening meals, and both the families and our staff here at Toberman appreciate your participation. We couldn’t do it without you!

The program has progressed far beyond its meager beginnings in 2003. The following are guidelines that will give some support in your work for this outreach. We believe our children will learn more and benefit greatly from a consistent, reliable approach to the meal service.

1. We serve around 70-80 children aged 5-16 Monday through Thursday of each week. We serve dinner at exactly 4:30 each day.
2. Summer hours differ. We would appreciate a cold meal for the kids that we can give them towards the end of each day. Often we are on a field trip and wont be back to Toberman in time for an actual meal service, so a “to-go” bag is perfect.
3. A balanced meal is appreciated, as we try to instill “food consciousness” in our children.
4. We are grateful for your provision of the necessary paper goods
5. The children are expected to say “please” and “thank you” and stand respectfully in line for their food. They are also expected to try everything to expand their culinary repertoire.
6. If desert is brought, please limit the amount to one per child.
7. The room should be left as it was found

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for all that you do for Toberman.

Please contact Chelsea Moore in the Development Department if you would like to get involved with the Hot Meal Program or if you have any questions or concerns.
