Grand Opening of New Building Press Release

Building Project

Except for the addition of a preschool in the 1980s, the facility has not undergone any major renovations since Toberman’s arrival in San Pedro. After a thorough planning process, the Board of Directors of Toberman Neighborhood Center (formerly Toberman Settlement House) has approved a budget to build a new facility on the present site. This is necessary to adequately suit the nature of today's programs.

Features of New Toberman Neighborhood Center

There will be four two-story structures, built around a central courtyard, along with a grass field, playground, and skating rink that will enable us to expand recreation opportunities.

Building 1 (completed in 2005): Private counseling rooms; activity and office space for family welfare, drug and alcohol recovery, trauma relief, and street gang unit programs.

Building 2: Toberman Learning Center, all other academic and administrative functions.

Building 3: State-Licensed Daycare.

Building 4: Olympic-size gymnasium, weight room, game room, two staff apartments.

Impact of New Facility

It will meet immediate needs as well needs projected over the next decade. It will serve 33% more people in need of Toberman’s services overall, double the number of children and teens we serve each day, from approximately 150 to 300, increase operating efficiency through incorporation of modern infrastructure and latest technology requirements, and provide a safe, bright, welcoming gathering place for the community.

Ways to Assist

There are still ways to assist financially toward the new buildings.
