Toberman welcomes Volunteers! Often, volunteers like to start out in one of our ongoing projects and then use their creativity to develop a new and exciting project. It’s up to you!

It is easy to become a Toberman Volunteer! First, set-up an introductory appointment with the Volunteer Coordinator.

The following projects always need volunteer support.

Toberman Academy Volunteer

We are seeking youth volunteers who are at least juniors, or seniors in high school to provide an engaged activity with our kids or sports activity. The goal is to teach the youth the purpose of the activity, be it music, art, dance, science, volleyball, soccer or reading stories. Show the youth how to do the activity and keep this interaction with the group once a week for the school year. We need at least a once a week commitment Monday thru Friday from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
Adult volunteers can assist within the classroom by helping youth with homework stations, reading, engaging by asking questions about the homework and identifying if the youth comprehends the assignment. Homework is structured from 3:00pm to 3:45pm each day. Our attempt is to initiate the homework process but if it isn’t completed, the child is expected to work with a parent at home. This role could potentially lead to becoming an adult mentor, working one-on-one with a selected youth to build a positive relationship.

Toberman Evening Meal Program Volunteer

This is our most popular and interactive program! It allows a group or individual to pick one day a month to come serve a hot meal to our children at 5:00 pm. The group purchases the food, then prepares the food, brings all the paper goods to feed approximately 55 children, then serves their food to them. It’s so heartwarming to see them smile and say “Thank You!” when they receive your food. A balanced meal is appreciated, as Toberman encourages “healthy eating” habits in our youth.

Food Drives

Volunteers organize, recruit, and run a drive to help supply our Food Pantry which always is in need of shelf-stable food to distribute to those who are in need.

Youth Volunteers

We are seeking youth volunteers who are juniors/seniors in high school to provide an enriched activity with the kids. The goal is to teach the youth something about an activity in music, art, dance, science or leadership skills.

  • You will supply all materials or supplies for your activity and will submit an outline which illustrates your weekly focus.
  • You will be expected to show the youth how to do the activity and continue this interaction with the group once a week for the school year.
  • We need a one hour commitment at least a once a week Monday through Friday, 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
  • If you are a Girl Scout or Eagle Scout and need to work on any award, this could be a great avenue for you to accomplish this goal.Youth Volunteers

Be creative! Have fun! Design your own activity!

Adult Volunteers

Adult volunteers can assist within the classrooms by helping youth at homework stations, reading, engaging by asking questions about the homework and identifying if the youth comprehends the assignment. Homework is structured from 3:00pm to 4:00pm Monday through Thursday. Our attempt is to initiate the homework process, but if it isn’t completed the child is expected to work with a parent at home. This role could potentially lead to operating as a mentor (working one-on-one with the youth to build a positive relationship). Our mentor program officially launched in January 2013.
