Since her leadership began in 2005, Gloria Lockhart has taken the organization to new levels of operation in the new state-of-the-art campus with the mission being the basis of her leadership. Together with board, staff and volunteers, over 18,000 people annually are being helped to move from poverty to self-sufficiency.
In 2008, Gloria Lockhart was awarded Woman of the Year by former Assemblymember Betty Karnette of the 54th Assembly District in Sacramento. This honor was the result of her professional accomplishments, exceptional service and compassionate community involvement as a venerated role model.
She serves as Commissioner of the Harbor Area Planning Commission, appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Gloria also serves on the Executive Community Police Advisory Board, and the Business, Education and Arts Committee of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce.
Earning her MSW from the University of Michigan, Gloria’s professional career extends back 35 years beginning with community organizing in Detroit, Michigan and Atlanta, Georgia. She arrived in Los Angeles in 1991. Her experience in social work includes administration, program development, gender specific curriculum development and group facilitation.
In addition to her successful career, Gloria is a single parent of a daughter who resides in NY with a career in entertainment. Gloria is one of the first African American women to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro; and the first in her family to graduate from college. Her hobbies include cycling, kickboxing and reading.
